Solace is a third person, looter-shooter, action RPG that takes places in a dystopian future where automatons have taken over the earth in fear of alchemy, only usable by humans. The player plays a hero who uses alchemy to bring weapons to life, these weapons having their own distinct personalities that change depending on the player’s actions. The player must traverse the city, looting, exploring, and fighting in a variety of detailed environments to break free allies that will help the player create a concoction to overthrow their machine overlords and free humanity.

This one-page design document was an assignment in creating concise short design documents in order to quickly convey ideas and concepts. The challenge was to fit a lot of the detail that goes into a traditional design document and condense that into a shorter form allowing for easy consumption. The making of this document taught me how to effectively express and showcase my ideas in a succinct way, without going too overboard on unnecessary information, focusing on crucial aspects of my concept. For this task we were also given a studio and certain criteria for the game idea, we had to design around the studio’s existing games as well as meet the criteria given, this specific request was for Supergiant games and we had to create a new RPG with a twist as well as a compelling narrative and an atmospheric setting.

Tasks included: Designing a game according to a specific studio and criteria, research into the studio and their existing games, conveying ideas and concepts concisely, level design for the map, showing threat level and enemy placement.
